Position Summary

We are building a research team to lead innovation and white paper generation for AFRL Research Area:

  • Multi-Domain Weapon Employment and Battle Management

This domain addresses the growing complexity of coordinating sensor, shooter, and command systems across air, space, and cyber domains. The mission involves real-time decision-making, C2 architecture design, cybersecurity, and AI-enabled battle management algorithms.

Education

Minimum: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related technical discipline.

Preferred: Ph.D. or thesis-based Master’s with research in command and control systems, multi-agent autonomy, or cyber-physical resilience.

Ideal Bachelor’s Degrees: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Cybersecurity Engineering.

Experience

• 5–10 years of experience in defense C2 architecture, tactical networks, or mission planning systems.

• Development of autonomous mission planning tools, cross-platform tasking, or real-time decision-support tools.

• Hands-on work with secure embedded systems, cyber-resilient architectures, or zero-trust implementations.

• Contributions to AI/ML-driven automation for sensor-to-shooter coordination or kill chain optimization.

• Experience working with tactical data links (Link 16, MADL), edge computing, and multi-domain operations software.

Ideal Candidate & Technical Proficiency

• C2 system architecture modeling (e.g., DoDAF, SysML, MBSE).

• Real-time mission planning algorithms and AI/ML decision systems.

• Cross-platform message handling using tactical data standards and middleware.

• Cybersecurity frameworks such as RMF, NIST SP 800-53, and zero-trust network design.

• Cloud, edge, or hybrid computing environments for tactical deployment.

• Software development experience in Python, C++, or Java for real-time systems.

• Digital engineering workflows with Confluence, DOORS, GitLab CI/CD, or equivalent tools.

• Operational scenario simulation and testing of joint-force integration strategies.
